Combine Power of Windows 7 & Windows 8 Start Menu with Start8

Windows OrbFor users who didn’t like the all-new Metro Start Screen of Windows 8, we already discussed how they can install Power8 and get back the classic old Windows 7 like Start Menu. However, one thing I would like to mention here is, no matter how complicated Windows 8 Start Screen may look like in the beginning, its search and indexing feature is far better than Windows 7.

So today we will see how you can combine the power of Windows 8 Start Screen search function to Windows 7 ease of access and Start Orb using Start8.

Start8 brings the Windows 7 like Start Orb in Windows 8 but the menu UI is still Metro in nature. This way you get the good old Start Orb, and Metro Search Function at one place. Start8 is free to use, and if you are running Windows 8 Consumer Preview or Later, you can download it from Startdock. You will have to provide your email address to get the download link on your email. The email is just used to track download counts, and the service does not spam in any kind.

Installation of Start8 is pretty simple. All you need to do is follow the onscreen instruction to complete the setup. After installation you will see Windows 7 like Start Orb in the taskbar but when you click it you will be greeted with Metro listing of your apps and search function. The Start Menu will not be in full-screen mode. However, and that’s one of the amazing thing. You can skip the metro Start Screen as well using Start8. To skip the Start Screen, right click on the Start Orb and click on Skip Start Screen.

Out of all the tools I have used to get the classic Start Menu in Windows 8; nothing does it better than Start8. With the power of Windows 8 searching and indexing, and Windows 7 easy to access Start Menu, I am sure you will love Start8. Don’t forget to share your thoughts about the tool in the comments.
